Greg Cohen is the author or Agile Excellence for Product Managers, and a Lean Product Management expert, as well as a consultant/trainer for 280 Group.
In this video he answers one seemingly simple question: What is Lean Product Management?
The answer of course is not as simple as the question, Lean Product Management is a complex topic but Greg breaks it down in an easy to understand way.
Lean Product Management can basically be defined as a mindset that Product Managers use to get value to market rapidly.
Experts have been developing and evaluating Lean Product Management techniques since 2008 and have determined that when teams apply them, it’s very possible to cut time to market in half.
There are several Lean Product Management principles but one of Greg’s favorites is ABV. Inspired by the sales term ABC (always be closing), ABV means Always Be Validating. Product Managers always need to be validating and it’s important to create awareness within the team of the time between validations with customers.
Don’t define something and then not validate it while it is being developed or you will end up with something that isn’t actually useful for the customers.
This video and blog should help you understand the very basic definition of Lean Product Management.
